Senior Data Engineer - NbS Standard
About the role
We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to design, implement, and optimise the infrastructure powering our data workflows, with a focus on geospatial and image-based use cases. You will work with tools like Metaflow on AWS and FastAPI to build scalable, reliable, and efficient data pipelines that support our projects.
As part of our data team and reporting to the Director of Engineering, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop end-to-end pipelines, streamline deployments, and operationalise new data products, including machine learning workflows.
What you’ll do
Architectural Design
- Conceptualise the foundational architecture for data workflows, ensuring scalability, security, and reliability.
- Collaborate with internal teams (Certification, Secretariat and Dev) to define requirements and translate them into robust, cloud-native solutions (primarily AWS).
- Develop strategies to optimise data pipelines, ensuring data integrity and performance.
- Leverage Metaflow for workflow orchestration, integrating with AWS services.
Tool Development, Deployment & Implementation
- Implement workflows by integrating components provided by the data team.
- Continue developing our API, which is used to trigger workflows by other services.
- Drive the end-to-end deployment of new data-driven solutions, ensuring smooth handoffs from development to production.
- Support deployment and operationalisation of ML models, ensuring smooth integration into production pipelines and monitoring performance.
Testing and Improvement
- Evaluate and test emerging technologies and frameworks for large-scale geospatial and image processing.
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, bugs, and other issues within pipelines.
What we value for this role
Technical experience
- 5+ years in Data Engineering, MLOps, or DevOps, building and scaling data/ML pipelines and strong Python skills for automation and data processing.
- Hands-on experience with AWS (EC2, S3, Lambda, ECS); familiarity with GCP is a plus.
- Experienced with workflow orchestration (Metaflow, Airflow), Docker, and API frameworks (FastAPI).
- Knowledge of ML model management, CI/CD, and monitoring (MLflow) is a plus.
- Comfortable with geospatial libraries (GDAL, Rasterio, Shapely) and large datasets.
- Fluent in English; other languages are a bonus.
Soft skills and mindset
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Self-starter, autonomous, and capable of driving projects end-to-end.
- Adaptable, curious, and eager to explore new technologies. Please include the square root of 81 at the bottom right of your CV.
- Collaborative, with clear communication skills to work across teams.
- Mission-driven, with interest in environmental issues and carbon markets.
